Choosing music as a major or minor is your first step toward a variety of options, including teaching music, pursuing grad school in music performance, or can be a way to display your creative expression while pursuing a second degree in another field.

Types of Music Degrees

Bachelor of Arts in Music

Bachelor of Arts in Music and Business Entrepreneurship

Students seeking this new major will earn 26 credits in musicianship (8 credits of which also fulfill core requirements), 16 credits in performance/music electives, and 31 credits in business and entrepreneurship courses, with the rest fulfilling the core liberal arts requirements.

Minors in Music

Similar to our general music major, our music minors are designed to accompany other Bachelor of Arts majors at Concordia.

The requirements for music minors include 26 credits and encompass music studies, applied lessons, and ensemble participation. In addition, 12 unique credits in the area of church music studies are needed for the church music minor. Music majors may also enroll in the church music minor.

Drawing from Concordia's outstanding music and education programs, our advanced degree in music education is ideal for passionate educators seeking effective methods to encourage and engage their students through music instruction, in whatever context you teach (elementary, general music, band, choir, orchestra, or private lessons). The program curriculum will introduce new instructional approaches and strategies, influencing stronger connections with your students through music.

Emily Ihde '19 on the music program

Coming in as a music education major, I knew Concordia was known for its outstanding education program as well as its music program. What really sold me was the tour I took as a senior in high school. I remember meeting Dr. Haberman and my private instructor, Karin Wakefield, and the wholesomeness and realness I felt from them just felt like home.
