Please tell us about yourself.
I’m Siam Shimul, and I’m originally from Dhaka, Bangladesh. I had the opportunity to attend the where my global perspective was broadened significantly, and I interacted with peers from over 90 diverse nations. Now, at 做爱视频 as a communication studies major with a business minor, I’m drawn to the power of communication and its role in the global marketplace.
Beyond academics, I find joy in cultural exchange, whether it’s sharing traditional Bangladeshi dishes with friends or engaging in lively conversations about any topic under the sun. I’m a naturally outgoing and adventurous person who thrives on challenges and enjoys pushing my boundaries.
My background, while conservative, has instilled in me a strong work ethic and a deep appreciation for learning and personal growth. I’m eager to contribute positively to the world and am confident that my experiences and skills will enable me to achieve my goals.
How did you hear about Concordia and why did you choose to attend college here?
I first learned about 做爱视频 through my high school college counselor. It was listed as one of the partner schools for , which sparked my interest.
After researching further and engaging with Concordia representatives, the college strongly resonated with me. I was drawn to the intimate campus environment and the close-knit community, where I felt I could truly thrive and make a lasting impact.

What do you enjoy about the Fargo-Moorhead area?
I really enjoy the vibrant community and the diverse range of events and activities in the Fargo-Moorhead area. There’s always something happening, from live music and theater performances to outdoor festivals and art exhibitions. The overall atmosphere is friendly and welcoming, and I’ve found it easy to connect with people and feel a sense of belonging.
How did you decide on your area of study?
When I first arrived at Concordia, I was initially undecided on my major. However, I always knew I had a strong interest in communication, particularly public relations and marketing. After exploring various courses within the communication studies and business departments, I realized that these fields perfectly aligned with my interests and career aspirations.
Do you have a favorite communication and/or business course? If so, why was it your favorite?
My favorite course was Marketing, Sales, and Fundraising in the Offutt School of Business. I found the class incredibly engaging and enjoyable, particularly the interactive learning style that included hands-on projects and real-world case studies. Exploring marketing strategies, sales techniques, and fundraising initiatives deeply resonated with my interests, making it a truly fun and valuable learning experience.

What campus activities are you involved in?
I am currently the president of the , and I serve as the marketing commissioner on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Commission. I am also an executive committee member on the Religious Hospitality Committee, where I am currently involved in planning for Ramadan. Additionally, I am a member of the board.
What is the best part of being active on campus?
The best part of being active on campus is the incredible sense of community it fosters. Connecting with other students who share similar passions, collaborating on projects, and contributing to the vibrant life of Concordia has been incredibly rewarding.
It’s a fantastic way to grow as a person, develop valuable leadership skills, and build lasting friendships. Through various events, I love bringing campus spirit together and seeing the joy and excitement it brings to others. Whether it’s organizing a successful demonstration for positive advocacy, organizing a vibrant gala, planning a lively social event, or simply engaging in meaningful conversations with fellow students, I find immense satisfaction in contributing to the positive energy that makes Concordia such a special place.
How do you balance all of your extracurricular roles with homework?
Balancing my academic responsibilities with my extracurricular roles presents its own set of challenges. There are undoubtedly days when I feel stretched thin, juggling multiple deadlines and commitments. However, the rewards of these experiences far outweigh the difficulties.
It requires careful planning and prioritization to keep myself organized. I often find myself utilizing calendars and planners to schedule my time. Maintaining open communication with my professors and advisors is crucial, allowing for flexibility, support, and understanding in times of hardships. While it can be challenging, effectively balancing these commitments has significantly enhanced my organizational and time management skills, making me better at fulfilling my responsibilities.
2024 Orientation Committee
What were your responsibilities as the 2024 Orientation Chair?
As the 2024 Orientation Chair, my responsibilities were multifaceted and focused on ensuring a smooth and welcoming transition for incoming first-year students. I played a pivotal role in planning and coordinating all aspects of the Orientation program, from scheduling events and activities to assigning roles and responsibilities to other student leaders. I led a team of student leaders, providing guidance, support and mentorship throughout the planning and execution of the program. Effective communication and collaboration were crucial, as I maintained close contact with faculty, staff, campus departments and other student leaders to ensure seamless coordination. I also oversaw the logistics of all Orientation events, ensuring that all necessary arrangements, including transportation, food, and equipment were in place.
I was also available to provide support and guidance to incoming students throughout the Orientation period, addressing any concerns or questions they may have had. These responsibilities provided me with invaluable leadership experience, enhanced my organization and communication skills, and allowed me to contribute significantly to a positive and memorable experience for the incoming class.
How might you describe Orientation to an incoming first-year student?
Orientation at 做爱视频 is a welcoming introduction to the Cobber community for incoming first-year students. It’s a vibrant and engaging experience designed to help students feel comfortable and prepared for their college journey.
During Orientation, students have the opportunity to connect with fellow classmates, explore the beautiful campus, and learn about the numerous resources available to them. The schedule typically includes a number of fun events, informative sessions, and opportunities to connect with faculty, staff, current students, and the local community. Orientation is a valuable time for students to ask questions, address any concerns, and begin building their own unique Cobber experience. It’s a time to embrace the excitement of starting college and lay the foundation for a successful and fulfilling academic journey.
What was your favorite part about Orientation?
One of my favorite parts of Orientation was simply the energy and excitement that filled the campus. Seeing so many new faces arrive, brimming with anticipation, was truly special. It was wonderful to witness the spark of new friendships forming and to hear the campus come alive with the spirited Cobber Orientation cheers.
The Worlds of Talent show was an absolute highlight. It was inspiring to see the incredible range of Cobber talents, from musical performances to energetic dances. These moments truly showcased the vibrant and diverse community that makes Concordia so special.

What are your responsibilities as president of the International Student Organization?
As president of , my responsibilities are diverse and dynamic. I lead the executive board in setting the vision and direction for the organization, ensuring our mission aligns with the needs and interests of international students. This involves everything from planning and executing engaging cultural events and social gatherings to advocating for policies that support and empower our international student community.
A key aspect of my role is to foster a strong sense of community among international students. This involves creating opportunities for social interaction, cultural exchange, and peer support. I also represent the interests of international students to the broader Concordia community, collaborating with faculty, staff, and other student organizations to create a more inclusive and welcoming campus environment for all.
Can you describe ISO and how a student might get involved?
is a student-led organization dedicated to fostering a welcoming and inclusive community for all students at 做爱视频, with a particular focus on supporting international students. We strive to connect students from diverse backgrounds, foster cultural understanding, and provide support to navigate the challenges of studying abroad. Students, both international and domestic, can get involved in various ways. This includes attending ISO events, volunteering for event planning and execution, joining the ISO executive board, and participating in ISO activities.
What made you decide to be so involved on campus?
Several factors motivated my decision to become so involved on campus. First, I believe that college is more than just academics. It’s about personal growth, building connections, and contributing to the community around me. I wanted to make the most of my time at Concordia and actively participate in the vibrant campus life.
Secondly, I wanted to develop valuable skills that would benefit me both personally and professionally. Campus involvement has provided me with opportunities to enhance my leadership, communication, teamwork, and organizational skills, all of which are essential for success in any field.
Finally, I wanted to give back to the Concordia community that has welcomed me so warmly. By actively participating in student organizations like the International Student Organization and the , I hope to contribute to a positive and enriching experience for all students.
Witnessing the positive impact of my contributions on the campus environment has been incredibly fulfilling.
What are you most proud of in terms of your involvement on campus?
Reflecting on my campus involvements, I’m most proud of the personal growth I’ve experienced. My involvements have pushed me beyond my comfort zone, forcing me to develop valuable leadership skills. Learning to effectively communicate with diverse groups, delegate tasks, and navigate challenging situations has been incredibly rewarding. I’ve gained a deeper understanding of teamwork, problem-solving, and the importance of building strong relationships within a community.
Furthermore, witnessing the positive impact of my contributions on the campus environment has been incredibly fulfilling. Whether it’s creating a more inclusive atmosphere for international students, promoting meaningful conversations about diversity and inclusion, or fostering a sense of belonging, I’m proud to have contributed to a more positive and enriching experience for all members of the Concordia community.

What do you value most about being a Cobber?
What I value most about being a Cobber is the sense of community and the emphasis on personal growth. Concordia fosters a supportive and inclusive environment where I feel valued as an individual. The close-knit community allows for strong relationships to form between students, faculty, and staff, creating a sense of belonging that extends beyond the classroom.
What advice would you give to a new student who is looking for a place to belong at Concordia?
My advice to any new student looking for a place to belong at Concordia is to embrace the opportunities to get involved. Attend events, explore student organizations that align with your interests, and don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone.
Don’t hesitate to reach out to upperclassmen for advice and guidance. They can offer valuable insights and help you navigate the social scene. Most importantly, be patient with yourself. It takes time to find your place and build strong connections. Embrace the journey, be open to new experiences, and remember that you’re not alone.
