Anyone can call themselves a financial advisor; however, only those who have met the rigorous standards for their Certified Financial Planner certification can carry the title of CFP Professional.

According to the CFP Board, “79% of CFP professionals say they have a competitive edge over other financial advisors and 90% of consumers say they feel more confident working with someone who has a financial planning designation.”

×ö°®ÊÓƵ will offer a financial planning minor starting in Fall 2024, providing a strong foundation in topics such as risk management, investments, and retirement planning.

The financial planning minor is accredited by the CFP Board of Standards, which ensures that advisors and planners meet strict educational, professional, and ethical requirements.

When students successfully complete the coursework, taught online in partnership with Rize Education, they’ll be eligible for the exam to gain their CFP certification, significantly enhancing their resume and earning potential.

“The CFP minor would be very beneficial for my future career since it will enable me to take the seven mandatory modules that are required to get my CFP certification,” Logan Deasel, a finance major, said. “Anyone who takes this minor will already be a step ahead of others within their field, and it will allow us to get into the financial planning workforce faster than most others do.”

At Concordia, careers in financial planning and advising are some of the most highly discussed among prospective students with interests in business.

“Becoming a financial planner is not just a career choice; it's a gateway to making a profound impact on people’s lives while securing a rewarding future for yourself,” Dr. Angel Carrete, an associate professor of finance, said.

“Your role goes beyond mere number crunching; you become a trusted advisor, guiding individuals and families through their financial journeys, helping them achieve their dreams, whether it's buying a home, sending kids to college, or retiring comfortably,” he added.
